Using Expanded Memory
As mentioned previously, MS-DOS does not recognize any
memory past 640K. All memory over 640K is called expanded
memory.
Some software packages are written to automatically recognize
expanded memory. For example, Lotus 1-2-3 and Microsoft
Windows
2.0
take full advantage of expanded memory. Other
programs
will not recognize expanded memory at
all.
It
depends
specifically on the application you are using.
We have supplied two software programs which are used with
your expanded memory. The fIrst program
is
EMM.SYS.
It
must
be
installed
before
the
expanded memory
can
be used. The
second program
is
ERAMDISK.SYS, a helpful program for
implementing a RAM disk in expanded memory.
EMM.SYS
• The MS-DOS driver for managing expanded memory.
• The following line must appear in the
me
CONFIG.SYS:

= EMM.SYS
